Age Spots

Also known as Liver or Sun Spots

For skin that's spotless

You know that sun damages your skin, but when it’s a lovely warm day it’s tempting to soak up a few rays.  Yet too much sun can cause your skin to age prematurely and result in age spots.  Sometimes known as ‘sun spots’, these benign blemishes generally appear in areas most exposed to the sun.  They range in colour from light brown to red or sometimes even black.

However, there’s an alternative to hiding these blemishes under heavy make-up. Riverbanks Clinic offers bespoke skin care solutions to help reduce discolourations and, in some cases, eliminate them completely!

There is a range of non-invasive treatments to suit your skin type, including:

• Advanced AHA Skin Peels – A course of treatment to exfoliate the dead cells and moisturise the skin, resulting in a clearer, balanced and youthful complexion.
Medical Microdermabrasion – Stimulates collagen production to promote healthy new skin cells and exfoliate the old ones
• SmartXide DOT Therapy – Laser skin resurfacing treatment removing the top layer to reach the smoother, fresher skin beneath. Results continue to develop for 3 – 6 months.
• IPL – Intense Pulsed Light is a non-invasive rejuvenation treatment using a hand held laser device against the skin, causing pigmentations to fade. Dermaroller - Micro-medical skin needling stimulates collagen to regenerate and repair your skin naturally.
Omnilux – Light therapy that stimulates cells, boosting collagen, blood flow and detoxifying the skin.  It speeds up the results following microdermabrasion, skin peels and IPL.
Aftercare for your skin is important, so to maintain results Dr Jain recommends:
Vitage Skin Protector SPF 30 for your face, if you can’t resist the sun
Vitamin C serum with anti-oxidants for even tones and smooth skin
Priori Idebenone Moisturising Cream – to target cellular aging with a high protection against environmental damage.

Age spots are blemishes on the skin associated with aging and UV exposure.

They range in colour from light brown to red or even black and are located in areas most often exposed to the sun, particularly the hands, face, shoulders, arms and forehead and head if hairless.

From the age of about 40 onwards, the skin, being weakened, becomes less able to regenerate from sun exposure and age spots start to appear – particularly in those who spend a great deal of time in the sun.

Generally, age spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly, creating a ‘patchy’, less youthful appearance.

Age spots can be significantly reduced and in some cases eliminated entirely, using treatments such as Advanced AHA Skin Peels, Medical Microdermabrasion, SmartXide DOT Therapy and IPL.
