Thread Veins

Also called spider, broken, or capillary veins

Thread veins are tiny veins that appear most commonly on the cheeks, nose and legs. Small thread veins are red, but larger ones look purplish.

Normally, the tiny veins in the skin are invisible, however sometimes they expand and show through the skin.

One cause of this is too much exposure to the sun over the years. Another is pregnancy or oestrogen treatment. They may also be inherited.

Thread veins can sometimes be a sign of Rosacea, or can result from overuse of steroid creams. THEY are more obvious after mid-life, when the skin becomes thinner and loses some of its collagen elasticity. The following treatments can be used, sometimes in conjunction with one-another, to successfully eliminate thread veins:

IPL and ND:YAG laser

This is the main stay of treatments for the successful removal of facial threadveins.

Nasal threadveins are one of the commonest complaints we see at Riverbanks Clinic in both men and women. They are ofetn hereditary, can be caused by poor diet and environmental factors as well. However, treatment is quite simple and often instant. Sometimes it can take just one treatment to successfully remove finer threadveins such as those around the nose. In stubborn cases it can take as many as five treatments. Your laser specialist will advise you on how many treatments you should expect to book in for.
