Dermal Fillers

At Riverbanks we only use the safest non-permanent dermal fillers, which provide patients with natural looking results lasting for up to 2 years. We have never used permanent dermal fillers as we are not convinced by their safety data. Your safety is paramount to us and we only use products we would happily use on friends and family.

There are several types of fillers, each with their own benefits and effects; the ones we believe are best, and which we use here at our clinic, are Restylane & the most advanced hyaluronic acid of them all, Emervel.


   

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers work to mimic the skin’s production of collagen to ‘plump up’ and fill out lines or depressions in the skin, or hollows in areas such as the cheeks, for a fresher, more toned and youthful appearance. This improvement in overall skin surface quality acts to re-elasticate the contours of the face, for a non-surgical ‘lift’ that is highly effective, but nonetheless subtle and natural. Hyaluronic Acid fillers work by attracting water from the surround tissues and act as a sponge in your skin, giving good tone and lifting folds. We believe that patients who hydrate regularly get the best results out of their treatments with Restylane and Emervel.

Hyaluronic Acid type fillers such as Restylane and Emervel can be used almost anywhere, including the lips, face, décolleté & hands. They work to RESTORE lost volume rather than give you volume you never had (unless thats what you want!). Most people would rather turn back the clock a few years and keep it there rather than look artificial and have that 'worked-on' look!

Collagen stimulating fillers 


Radiesse is excellent for more severe lines as well as recontouring the face and also rejuvenating the hands. Radiesse not only gives immediate lifting effects but it also stimulates the skin to grow some of its own collagen. Radiesse is not reversible should a problem occur but thankfully the need for reversal has not occurred YET at Riverbanks. Radiesse usually needs two sessions about 6-8 weeks apart. The 2nd session is necessary to get the longer lasting results out of Radiesse.

Sculptra is a collagen stimulating filler which can cause dramatic facial restoration if there is significant weight loss from the face, resulting in hollow temples, hollow cheeks, sagging jowls and dull, lifeless skin. Often 3 sessions are required needing a minimum of 3 vials and possibly up to 7 vials in the first year to correct the volume loss. Thereafter annual top ups of 1 vial are advised to maintain results.

Do the injections hurt?

Apart from a tiny pin prick when the fine needle enters the skin, there should be virtually no pain, thanks to the local anaesthetic pre-mixed into the fillers. In fact the deeper the filler is placed, the more comfortable it is. Some people may notice a dull ache for a few days after treatment but this tends to happen with deeper placed fillers. 

What are the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid?

A treatment with Restylane or Emervel provides an easy way to enhance your looks. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly, and  lasts around one year*. What are the risks with dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are made up of gels and if these are injected into blood vessels they can cause blockages. This happens extremely rarely in skilled medical hands, and should it happen, your doctor may be able to clear the blockage with a variety of techniques in the clinic. This is why we believe that only doctors provide dermal filler injections. The most common side effects with dermal fillers are minimal bruising, slight tenderness and temporary redness over the injection sites. Rarer side effects include prolonged bruising, delayed swellings and even rarer, allergies.
