INGROWING TOE NAILS occur when part of a nail grows into the side of a toe, causing pain and chronic infection. This condition can be treated by:
• Wedge Excision carried out under local anaesthetic. A sliver of nail is removed , allowing the nail to regrow again. The wound will need to be dressed regularly for a few weeks. Often, however, the new nail will ingrow again. If this occurs then this part of the digit that creates the nail will then have to be destroyed.
• Wedge Excision with Ablation prevents re-growth of the section of the nail which is ingrowing by additionally painting the nail matrix with phenol.
