How does laser hair removal work?
The laser creates a light pulse which is absorbed by the hair and breaks it down from the root, preventing regrowth. Lasers target the pigmentation in the hair, which is why it is often more effective on darker hair. However, the new Soprano technology is effective for all skin types.
How many treatments do I need?
At any time, around 20% of your hair is dormant and there are four stages to its growth. Laser only destroys hairs that are in the earliest growth phase, so you will usually need between six and eight sessions to remove the hair completely. However this depends on your hair and skin type, hormonal balance, ethnicity and skin sensitivity. This will be discussed at your consultation.
How effective is laser hair removal?
International clinical research studies have proved great results for all skin types. Lighter hairs are harder to eliminate as the laser targets the pigmentation in the hair.
No laser treatments are permanent and you may have to return some two years following your treatment to remove regrowth. However, laser hair removal is a long-term answer to excess and unwanted facial and body hair.
Does it work for all skin and hair types?
Laser hair removal is safe for most skin types even Asian skin types which are prone to burn or cause hyper and hypo pigmentation (turning the skin darker or lighter respectively) with traditional laser removal systems. This was because lasers are made to target the melanin or pigmentation in the hair which lead to targeting the melanin in darker skin types. However, the advanced Super Soprano XL Laser Hair Removal System is safe and painless for all skin types as it differentiates between the skin and hair.
Our expert medical aesthetician can perform a patch test for you and give you advice to ensure you are completely comfortable before going ahead with the treatment.
Can laser hair removal work anywhere on the body?
Absolutely! Laser hair removal can be used to treat any part of your face or body that you want hair free.
What happens during a laser hair removal treatment?
Your clinician will first ensure your skin is free from moisturisers and creams. A cool gel is then applied to the skin which is soothing and acts as a conductor for the laser. The hand-held laser is placed gently against the skin and pulses of light target the hairs. As everyone has different skin sensitivities, you may feel a slight heat or tingling sensation, but the treatment is painless.
Some of the hairs will have been removed after your first session, but it can take up to two weeks following your treatment for all the hairs to fall out.
