What is Botox?

Much is known about the benefits of Botulinum Toxin Type A injections (commonly known as BOTOX®) and many of our patients swear by it without the knowledge of their friends or family - because when given properly, it looks very natural.

There are actually 3 types of Botulinum Toxin Type A available in the UK at the moment and these have been split into two categories, each with a license for use cosmetically and therapeutically. The groups are:

 Therapeutic Name Cosmetic name
 Botox Vistabel
 Dysport Azzalure
 Xeomin Boucouture

Botulinum Toxin (Botox) can be used to treat tension headaches, migraines, excessive sweating of the armpits, neck spasms, torticollis, excessive teeth grinding, bruxism, excessive frown lines, jowls, lip lines, bunny lines and many other indications. Its is also very useful for Jawline Slimming using the Nefertiti Lift technique.

Botulinum Toxin is the most effective treatment for smoothing out dynamic facial wrinkles (the ones that appear when you smile, frown or laugh), for example on the forehead, around the eyes or between your eyebrows. One session temporarily relaxes muscle contractions to give you a fresher, brighter, more relaxed appearance. Wrinkles become smoother and often even disappear altogether. Most people require 1 session every 4 months in the first 2 years, then every 5-6 months thereafter. Consider these treatments as part of your skin care maintenance.

Treatment FAQS

Is it safe?

Yes. Botulinum Toxin is one of the most researched drugs in medicine, with thousands of papers published from across the world. Recent media stories have often been grossly misinterpreted by non-medical journalists purely in a bid to sell more copies of their publication. or sell more advertising space on TV. Botox is used safely in young children and adults in all national health systems worldwide. The cosmetic use of botox is entirely safe.

What types of Botulinum Toxin are there?

There are 6 brands (Botox, Vistabel, Dysport, Azzalure, Xeomin & Bocouture) available in the UK, all of which are entirely safe, reliable and effective. At Riverbanks we use a combination of the different brands, drawing on the best qualities of each, in order to provide you with a personalised treatment with natural, lasting results.

Will I look worse if I stop having Botox?

Not at all. You will just return to your pre-treatment condition.

How long does it last?

Typically, the effects last for 3-4 months, after which re-treatment is usually required.

How much will it cost?

Prices start from £210 for the first area. Our prices are based upon exactly how much botox you need to achieve the desired results so individual prices vary.

Am I in safe hands?

Our doctors perform thousands of botox procedures each year and treats many well-known celebrities. All of our patients, including the celebrities, maintain a NATURAL look, and their friends generally comment on how well they look. You can be sure you will be in expert and safe hands.

What sort of aftercare is there after Botox?

It is important not to rub the treated areas for the first few hours after treatment with Botulinum Toxin injections as this may cause the drug to spread to other muscles and cause unwanted effects such as a lazy eyelid or heavy brow.

Likewise, do not lie down for the following 3-4 hours after treatment, again to try and prevent drift to other muscles.

Many first timers keep looking in the mirror to check if their frowns are disappearing. This is ok to do for the first few days, but once the effect has developed please do not continue to 'test' the muscles as this may reduce the efficacy and duration of your results.

Apart from that, be normal!
