At Riverbanks we take your aftercare extremely seriously as we know that the right aftercare will speed up your recovery and also improve your overall results. Studies have shown that the multi-modal approach has the following benefits:

Our therapists are trained in the CARE programme as devised by the inventor of Vaser Hi Def & Vaser 4D Sculpt, Dr Alfredo Hoyos. Our two head therapists are the only two in the UK to be personally trained by Dr Hoyos in Bogota, Colombia.

The VASER CARE programme at Riverbanks consists of the following features:

  1. Ultrasound therapy to reduce inflammation and soften the tissues
  2. Manual lymphatic drainage to drain off excess fluid
  3. Pressure therapy to reduce swelling and detoxify the body


We recommend between 10-20 sessions of aftercare in the first 28 days after surgery. For VASER 4D patients, we recommend a minimum of 10 sessions in the first 10 days after surgery. For VASER Lipo patients, an optimal treatment plan is the same as for 4D, but not so important and the treatments could be just 1-2 x a week. For regular VASER lipo patients it is possible to find a therapist local to you who will just perform the manual lymphatic drainage but please note the results will not be the same as with the full CARE programme.

VASER Aftercare FAQS

Is it painful?

The therapy sessions are generally very beneficial and every patient looks forward to each session as they know that they will feel a lot better afterwards. Your body is generally tender over the areas you have had surgery and most people get by on the painkillers prescribed. During the first few days your body will be at its most tender and the initial therapy sessions can be uncomfortable at first. However, your therapist will vary the intensity accordingly.


What happens if I don't have any aftercare sessions?

In the few patients that are non-compliant with our aftercare programme we see increased pain and swelling as well as increase in complications.


When will my drains come out?

If you have had the short drains inserted at the end of your surgery, these will be removed between 4-7 days after surgery. Each day, your drains will be checked to check the amount of drainage. Your therapist will remove them once they have stopped draining excess fluid during the massages.


Can I have more than 10 sessions?

Yes. Anything between 10-20 sessions is recommended for patients. The first 10 sessions help prevent swellings called seromas. The subsequent sessions will reduce the amount of firm swelling called fibrosis which develops later. Most patients develop a degree of fibrosis even with the sessions but this is much less than without the aftercare.


Can I have the aftercare locally?

If there is a VASER after care therapist nearer to you then it may be possible to arrange this. If you have VASER Lipo only, then any manual lymphatic drainage therapist who regularly treats liposuction patients should be competent in aiding your recovery. We usually ask them to speak with your surgeon first before the surgery.

Our surgeons & aftercare therapists have all been personally trained by the inventor of VASER Hi Def and VASER 4D Sculpt in Colombia. Our lead surgeon is an international speaker and trainer on VASER Lipo and is extremely passionate about this area of cosmetic surgery.
