Blood Blisters & Venous Lakes
Vascular abnormalities, including haemangiomas, venous lakes, telangectasia, spiderveins, threadveins
Vascular abnormalities such as blood blisters form when tissues and blood vessels underneath the skin are damaged without piercing the skin, for example tool pinching, abrasion or even frostbite.
They can be very painful, due to the bruising where the blister occurred, and consist of a pool of lymph, blood and other fluids trapped underneath the skin’s surface.

If punctured, blood blisters suppurate a dark red fluid and often result in the surface skin becoming callus or separating and drying up entirely (potentially even scarring). Left untreated, the fluids can end up cut off from the rest of the body so that they dry up, leaving behind dead cell material inside the blister.
ND:YAG or IPL laser treatment is a highly effective, quick way of removing blood blisters with no subsequent scarring. Treatment duration depends on the size and nature of the blister being treated.
